Martha’s journey for creating whole plant, therapeutic skincare started in her early teenage years. At age 14, after a childhood that was fraught with chronic staph throat infections and tonsillitis, she became anti-biotic resistant. At this time she discovered an intense interest in the study of herbs as a means of overcoming her condition.
Moving from Texas back to her home state of New Mexico around this same time opened a door towards natural plant healing. On a back road from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, she and a girlfriend ventured into a curio shop in Golden, NM selling antique glass bottles. The proprietor of the shop abruptly asked if she would like to study herbs. Martha said “Yes!”. She was taught herbal wild crafting, tincture making and the practice of plant spirit medicine.
Years later, Martha moved to the Pacific NW and became a certified massage therapist, reflexologist, aromatherapist, and trained as a Flower Essence practitioner. Through creating custom formulas to meet the needs of her massage and reflexology clients, aromatherapy students, therapists and companies, OHA came into being.
